Salt Marshes come from rivers and deposition via flocculation e.g. a river estuary.
It forms where there is shelter e.g behind a spit.
Once these mudflats meet sea level and are uncovered during low tide they are colonised by Eel grass which is the pioneer species.
- Eel grass does two things that increase deposition and hold salt marsh together.
Eel grass'
-Roots hold together the salt marsh
-Slow down the sea currents thus increasing deposition.
