Nuclear power and its management

Page history last edited by SeanW 12 years, 10 months ago

Nuclear power is achieved by nuclear fission. The energy it releases is used to produce steam, in the same way that coal is used. Nuclear power does not produce any polluting/greenhouse gases, apart from water vapour.

Advantages:

- No greenhouse gases

- Creates jobs

- Relatively cheap energy production

It has a few disadvantages:

- Nuclear power plants are unsightly

- Initial investment is high

- Nuclear waste is extremely difficult to dispose of effectively

- Accidents can prove very deadly and difficult to control (i.e. Chernobyl 1986 and Dai-Ichi plant, Fukushima, Japan 2011)
