What is a Bar?
A bar forms when a spits growth is not inhibited by a river, so the flow of water does not scour the end and transport the sediment out to sea allowing the spit to grow across the estuary. A lagoon forms behind the bar and can sometimes be formed as a result of flooding surging during storms at high spring tide.
